Sorry, nut. Yes - it's not common, but it's isn't ABnormal for a company to ask for SSN even for a tshirt prize. When this happens, you can very easily say something like " Oooh. I am SO excited! Thank you so much! I am wondering, though, if my SSN is absolutely required? I have had identity theft problems in the past and I am scared stiff to give that info out. blah, blah, blah, yadda yadda. " Often they will then say that it is NOT required. ( obviously this only works for prizes UNDER $600 ).

( And I'm with you on this - for that prize, I certainly would not give out my SSN. I don't even LIKE yogurt )

I told them exactly that...my identity had been compromised only less than 24 hours ago and i was not comfortable giving it out....that is why they asked me to call it in...I told them that still did not make me comfortable...they didn't seem to care .....oh and I do like yogurt but not THAT much )

I refused a prize last year from a mcdonalds contest that had a $100 value for the same reason so not worth the risk
